Skaiven

“What greeted them was no man, not like any they had seen before. His features were twisted variations of his human origins, bone-like patches covering parts of his body like scales, with skin paler than the sand on which he walked. He was all at once beautiful and terrifying, the sun reflecting off his skin like a divine glow. Though he may have been human once, that part of his past was lost to the desert, like so many before him.”

Skaiven Traits

All Skaiven share some common traits.

Stat Increase: Your Endurance stat increases by 5 points.

Age: Due to the nature of Skaiven as divinly altered beings, no one is quite sure how long they live. Many believe them to be immortal and unable to die by natural means of age.

Nature: Because Skaiven are souless beings who have been forever changed since the Great Dividing, they have no specific good or evil leaning, they are more in line with their base instincts of survival and will do whatever it takes to make it through each day regardless of morals.

Size: This varies depending on the type of race the Skaiven was before they turned, look to each of the normal race pages for this information once you’ve chosen your Skaiven’s subrace.

Burned-Soul: You have gone through the flames of divinity and come out the other side immortal. No heat can match that which you have already suffered, so any fire damage you take is halved.

Frightening Visage: Your hauntingly beautiful and unnatural features strike unnerving chords in all who behold you. When first seen by any creature, they must make a Courage check, mark 50%, or be frightened of you for 1d4 hours.

Languages: Memories burnt like the souls inside you in the Dividing, as such you know broken parts of your subrace’s original language as noted on the subraces below. However, there is a new language that has grown between the Skaiven called Desrakian which you are fluent in.

Subraces

Teppywig

Many died in the Great Dividing, and those who were not within the Valley of the Unseen at the time are no different, leaving many Teppywigs dead among the remains. As with all Skaiven, some of their traits are inherrited from their origional race, and whilst the joyous disposition of the Teppywigs was lost to the burning sun, their ability to communicate and create comonalities between others was not.

Stat Increase: Your Dialogue stat increases by 3 points.

Rose-Tinted Eyes: You don’t seem to find things as intimidating as others may find it, choosing to see the beauty and good in things instead. As such, you gain advantage on all Courage checks.

Broken Language: Teppywig.

Human

As the most common race of the world, many Humans died in the Great Dividing, especially in the Western Continent where a whole nation was wiped out in the dunes. Some of their traits were inherited into their new immortal forms as they became Skairven.

Stat Increase: Your Insight stat increases by 3 points.

Versitile: Of all the races, humans are able to adapt to situations and environments the most effectively, allowing them to gain an additional stat increase of 3 points in a stat of their choice.

Broken Language: Common.

Orc

To the North of the Obsidian Fells, there were once homes of many Orcish citizens which were obliterated in the Great Dividing. This large and already intimidating race turned into something even more frightening, at least in appearance, when they became the Skaiven they are now.

Stat Increase: Your Presence stat increases by 3 points.

Trait:

Broken Language: Orcish.

Jakarak

On the Western Continent, the Jade Jakarak often moved throughout the mires and savanahs freely, living as a roaming race. It’s unsurprising that so many of them were caught in the fires of the Great Dividing, burning their souls away and turning them to Skaiven.

Stat Increase: Your Endurance stat increases by 3 points.

Trait:

Broken Language: Jakr.

Troll

Just south of the Great Divide on the Eastern Continent, the Trolls once had much more land pushing towards the Elves, with tribes trading across the desert there before the Great Dividing changed the nature of the sands forever.

Stat Increase: Your Constitution stat increases by 3 points.

Trait:

Broken Language: Troll.

Elf

Trading across the desert to the South of the Dusk Moor, the Elves had many settlements and cities that are now lost to the Great Divide. These cities now lie silent but not empty, as Skaiven Elves roam the old streets and take shelter in broken buildings from the vicious weather that plagues the sands.

Stat Increase: Your Willpower stat increases by 3 points.

Trait:

Broken Language: Elvish.

Dwarf

Stat Increase: Your Courage stat increases by 3 points.

Darksense: Your eyes are well adjusted to see in the dark caves and caverns of your native homes, allowing you to see in darkness as if it were dim-light. However, it also means that in bright light your eyes struggle to pick out details and have disadvantage on Physique checks in it. This can be averted with Dwarven gem-glasses, specially made to shade the eyes from the sun.

Broken Language: High Common.
