Residents of Riggen

Etheren Throwy

“I have sailed across many seas, met many people, and yet never have I met someone who has nothing more to learn. I count myself in that number. So come in, sit down, and maybe you’ll learn to feel welcome, at the very least. Now… What can I do for you?”

Having left the Dusk Moor a long time ago, Etheren found himself searching for somewhere to call home where he would not be looked on with disdain. As a Fallen Elf, he was always treated like he was worthless and alone, isolated from communities and events that his Dusk Elven neighbours enjoyed. His mother, Amisra, was shunned too for having an affair with a Dawn Elf, suffering abuse at the hands of her family and friends. After 20 years, he’d had enough. Desperate to get something more out of life, to find somewhere he was welcome, he left his home in Watola-Rijeka, in search of that dream. Unfortunately his mother refused to leave with him, no matter how bad the abuse, the Dusk Moor was her home. So, alone, he made his way to Delith Grad, in hopes of finding a ship to take him away, anywhere, even though he had nothing to give in return. At the docks he met Camarian Merchant Captain Calhoun Bryce, who took pity on him, offering him a job aboard his vessel, The Sea Shadow. Whilst on the seas, he got a new companion in the form of a Pengal (owl-penguin), who he rescued from a wreckage off the coast of the Barren Borealis and nursed back to health. He names her Amis, after his mother. His contract stood until Calhoun’s death, 38 years later, where his loyalty awarded him enough money in the will to start a new venture, buying him the Old Owl Tavern in Riggen. In his time onboard the Sea Shadow, he had found the acceptance he longed for, and wished to help others find the same. He named his new business after his owl-like companion in a nod towards his days on the seas, and began cultivating the space as somewhere you can go to get advice, make new connections, and have a good drink. Etheren takes it upon himself to guide as many sailors and refugees to better futures and safety amongst the citizens of the Conglomerate, making him well respected in the community and making his tavern one of the safest places in Riggen. He is quick to regale people with tales of his past, but never talks about his traumas or the Dusk Moor, even going as far as to avoid traditional elvish styles. His new occupation and experiences has led to him having Artmus as a patron, who looks kindly on him for his actions helping those who are lost find a new home.
